Vote 2020I want to make these four points below: The election system is not rigged. The epidemic has offered new challenges. However, massive fraud will not happen. Cases of intentional fraud often are caught prior to voting, so the results are not effected. The election rules and laws of our country, by and large, will be honored. There are just too many organizations at local, state and federal level working to keep our the process as fair and open as possible. Laws are harsh on anyone attempting to commit fraud. The election system is not perfect, but successful attempts to cast fraudulent ballots is very rare. Mailing in or showing up in person to cast a ballot should be an individual's decision. Recent actions to reduce the USPS ability to sort and deliver mail could not have been done at a worse time. You may have to drive around town to find a drop box to deposit your ballot. Voting will take a bit more effort. You may have to vote much earlier than others, because you have opted to mail in your ballot. You will have to follow the rules exactly. Mailing in a ballot late means it might not be counted. Voters sometimes fail to sign the envelop with their ballot. The election outcome should be respected. Either Donald Trump or Joe Biden will be elected on November 3. The loser concedes to the winner as soon as it is clear the election results. The results may not be known immediately. An important part of our system is a respect by our parties and candidates for the election process as part of our written law and tradition. Mail in ballots not properly signed or arriving too late will not be counted. Any interference from outsiders of our elections should be investigated. Elections depends on the populace to be engaged and informed on the issues. The Internet delivers information "at the speed of light." It also delivers a tremendous number of falsehoods just as rapidly. It takes time to double check information, but it is necessary. Free commentary from cable network shows and social media comes at a cost. Bottom line: The electorate is still in charge on choosing a president. Choose wisely. Please don't leave this job to others. VOTE 2020. David Lord |
